Sometimes, great change begins with chance – or with a voice from afar. Stephan Germuth carried an idea he could not let go of: “To create Well-Being.” Not only for himself, but for the world. For people who needed it. For nature that had fallen out of balance. The question that haunted him: Where should he begin? The answer came unexpectedly – through a call from Peru. An old friend from Germany had been living for years near Iquitos, deep in the Peruvian Amazon. Her voice was urgent: “You must come. The farmers are selling their land to a palm oil company. They have no choice. Their soils no longer provide, they earn nothing. Soon, everything will be gone.” Stephan listened. Yet he hesitated. He had no experience with South America, no experience with agriculture, and he was an urban man. What difference could he possibly make? But the calls came again. And again. “If you don’t come, soon everything will be sold.” He realized listening was no longer enough. His friend’s trust in him was unwavering – she was convinced he could make a difference. He decided he had to see the situation with his own eyes before making any decision. So he packed his bags, boarded a plane, and set out for Peru. He did not know then that this journey would change his life.
Iquitos was overwhelming. The heat, the hum of insects, the impenetrable jungle, and the despair in the eyes of the farmers. The rainforest was in danger. Families stood before the decision to sell and leave. In the midst of this pressing reality, Stephan met Juana. She was not just a woman who loved the forest – she fought for it. As a dedicated journalist, she passionately defended the Amazon and its people, full of energy and deeply rooted in nature. She immediately saw what was at stake. Stephan and Juana walked among the plantations, breathing in the warm, gentle scent – and they saw a future. There it was: the chance to do everything differently.
The farmers were skeptical. They had learned that “sustainability” was often just a word, a promise never kept. But Stephan and Juana carried a vision. And it was Juana – with her voice, her resolve, and her deep understanding of the people – who gained the farmers’ trust.
The first sustainable rosewood plantations were established. Young trees were planted – not only for today, but for generations to come. The farmers realized they didn’t have to sell their land. They could cultivate it, protect it, and make a living from it. And then, something unexpected happened:
