The Origin of a Fragrance Legend
The majestic rosewood tree of the Amazon belongs to the laurel family and can grow up to 30 meters tall. In the 1920s, rosewood became known worldwide. Its fine fragrance shaped the history of perfumery and was used in the legendary Chanel No. 5, among others. But its desirability led to overexploitation: during the 1960s and 70s, large populations disappeared. Since 2010, rosewood has been strictly protected. In Peru, only what has been verifiably cultivated sustainably may be processed.
